What makes our school stand out is a clear vision to offer a good value education.
In a city of 9 million people, we make the Big Apple feel like a small community. We envision our school as a learning community that treats children and adults with respect and kindness. Our motto is, “Take Care of Each Other.” We want children to value diversity of ideas, to develop compassion and the ability to see themselves in another’s shoes. Along with our dedicated teaching staff, rigorous curriculum, and supportive parent body, 183 offers unique programming to enrich each child’s elementary school experience.
At 183, each grade has enrichment programs that not only deepen particular subjects studied throughout the year, but help students discover passions and talents. We offer instrumental and vocal studies in grades 3-5, and partnerships with the following New York City cultural institutions: One World Global Classroom, New York Historical Society, Justice Resource Center, NYC Chess, NYC Ballet, and National Dance Institute. Our school also offers students the chance to join our competitive Math League and Track Team.
Hydroponics Science Lab
Through funding from our City Councilmember Ben Kallos, PS 183 opened their new Hydroponics Science lab in the fall of 2019. With a partnership with New York Sunworks, students, in addition to the New York Science curriculum, will study environmental sustainability by growing their own plants and vegetables.
Thanks to a grant from our NY State Assemblywoman Rebecca Seawright, P.S. 183 recently renovated their art room. Students get art class, once a week, where they work in a variety of mediums. Student art work is featured in our yearly 183 art show and the District 2 Art Show at Sotheby’s Auction House.
Our PTA is committed to funding teaching assistants to support our lower grade classroom teachers. Our Teaching Assistants help our young students at specials, in the classroom, and during lunch and recess.
