  1. THANK YOU to all PS 183 families who volunteered for and participated in in the PS 183 Social Action Day last Saturday! Thanks to all the hard work of parents, students and teachers working together, the 2nd Grade bake sale raised over $540 for the Wild Bird Fund, which cares for orphaned, injured and ill animals in New York City so that they can be released into the wild. The 3rd Grade Bake Sale and blindfold cupcake frosting challenge raised over $300 to benefit ava’s Voice, which provides public education about and support for families affected by hearing and vision loss. The 5th Grade rummage sale raised over $600 for the Halo Foundation, which provides housing, healing and education to youth in greatest need, unsold rummage sale items were donated to Hour Children for formerly incarcerated women and their families. Stay tuned for more social action projects in May when PS 183’s 1st Grade will organize a school store of handmade goods in support of Unicef and 4th Grade students carry out a social action project focused on Memorial Day and US soldiers. To get involved please contact
  2. If you are interested in becoming a member of the PTA Executive Board, please reach out to the PS 183 Nominating Committee, Michele Kaufman, Mara Yentis, Kaori Bell and Jackie Racer. The PTA Executive Board works on raising funds throughout the year through various initiatives such as the auction, Family Giving Fund, Book Fair, etc. They also create the budget for the following school year working with administration to fund programs that are important to our school such as National Dance Institute, chess, professional development for teachers, classroom assistants and so much more! The Executive Board also arranges community service projects that our students participate in and works on community building events. Members of the Executive Board are expected to head up at least one project during the school year.
  3. If you are interested in serving on the School Leadership Team, please contact the PTA Co-Presidents, Patty Brahe, Joslin Paradise, or Lisa Zakhari. The School Leadership Team works closely with administration to plan projects such as Escape the Room, World Writer’s and Mathematician’s Day, the new science lab project and to update the Comprehensive Education Plan.
  4. Last year our school community participated in Councilmember, Ben Kallos’s participatory budgeting process and we rocked it! Our school got out the vote and we won $600,000 to re-do our science lab (Construction to begin soon!). This year, we are doing it again and our project is a much needed heating, ventilation air conditioning system HVAC to efficiently cool the cafeteria. Help us get out the vote April 9th – 13th and we will be able to say goodbye to those noisy fans and make the cafeteria comfortable for our school community and all of the community based organizations who use the space. Look for e-mails to share, flyers to post and sign-up sheets to man voting tables around our community.
