2nd Grade: Food Drive for City Harvest

In conjunction with the 2nd grade urban communities study, the Second grade will partner with City Harvest,  NYC’s food rescue organization, which rescues 33 million pounds of food annually and delivers it to 600 emergency food programs throughout the five boroughs. Second grade teachers and families will work with students to organize a food drive in school and at the 67th Street market; students can supplement this by also bringing the drive to their apartment buildings, places of worship, etc, helping City Harvest feed New York City’s men, women and children by keeping food pantries and soup kitchens stocked year-round. Students will make class visits to share information about the food drive with other grades, create posters to put up around the school and the wider community, and encourage friends and family beyond 183 to donate items
