Dear 4th Grade Families,
We are nearing the end of a really special whole class read aloud, Save Me a Seat by Sarah Weeks and Gita Varadarajan, a sweet perspective novel about an unlikely friendship that develops in just 5 days of a fifth grade class. We’ve fallen in love with the characters, Joe and Ravi, but also with the techniques and the styles of the authors.
Fourth grade is typically a year filled with field trips and experiences that enrich our learning. Due to the nature of this school year, we of course, are unable to take the kids out of the building for trips. However, in an effort to make this year special and memorable, we are excited to let you know about an opportunity we have arranged for the fourth grade students. We will be meeting up with Sarah Weeks, one of the authors of Save Me a Seat, on Zoom!!! We’re calling this experience a “virtual field trip,” as it is an experience that will enrich our learning, it’s just taking place virtually!
We have worked hard to keep the fee for this program as low as possible. The PTA so kindly helped us set up an electronic payment form on the PS 183 website. The cost per child is $10. Please visit the PS 183 website (ADD LINK HERE) to make your $10 contribution. We know this is a challenging time financially for some families, so if you need any assistance, please reach out to your child’s teacher. If you’re able, there will also be a spot on the site to sponsor an additional child. Please contribute by Friday, March 12th, so we can pay the author.
Our Zooms with Sarah Weeks will take place at the end of March. We will be arranging the fourth graders into 3 groups so that as many kids as possible will be able to ask Sarah a question. Look out for an email from your child’s teacher in the upcoming weeks with their specific date and time for the Zoom.
Thank you for contributing to this incredible opportunity for your children! Feel free to reach out with any questions!
Best, 4th Grade Teachers
